Well, some of us. We met up at The Queens Arms, a very comfortable pub in South Ken (London).
It was like we’d known each other since school. We couldn’t stop talking. But we tore ourselves away from the chips for an event at the Royal Geographical Society to hear some tales of travel tribulations from Simon Calder, Ben Fogle, Hilary Bradt and Kate Humble, among others.
This was a Bradt event to launch its new book The Irresponsible Traveller. It was also Bradt’s 40th anniversary. There was a VIP party in a smart room next to the lecture theatre where we, as mere hoi polloi, weren’t allowed. Until the Wanderlust crew arrived and the lovely Lyn Hughes swept us along with her into the party. Wine, canapés, speeches, chit chat. It was an unexpected bonus, so we ended up staying at the event instead of rolling back to the pub. Thanks, Lyn! And sorry for taking you away from your industry networking, Simon and Hazel!
We’re looking forward to another night of travel chat and wine when we reconvene at the Wanderlust World Guide Awards at the same venue on 21st October. See you in the pub, ladies. And anyone else who might care to join us…
