Like many sailors, Jamie and I love to walk when we’re not on the boat, so I was delighted to find Walkopedia, a website packed full of information on walks around the world. It is a useful tool for anyone interested in travel and walking, from easy strolls in the city to strenuous mountain hikes.
When they launched the writing competition last year it sparked off lots of memories of mountains and forests, but I chose to write about something a little different and went with a tale about a walk round the city of Jaipur.
I was thrilled to learn that my piece was joint runner-up, and has already been published on the website along with the other winners. Not only that, but Helen Moat and Helen Watson, both from the Itinerant Writers Club, were longlisted. Well done Helens!
And the other bit of good news? Jamie’s image of a track on Majuli island at dawn won the photography competition.
(The Walkopedia site is currently suffering from a few glitches and is being re-vamped, but you can see the competition winners here).
